The XFL season begins on February 18th, just a couple of weeks away. Now that rosters are starting to finalize, championship odds have been released.
The XFL Bottom 4
The four lowest teams in championship odds look like this:
- Orlando Guardians (+750)
- Houston Roughnecks (+750)
- DC Defenders (+650)
- Vegas Vipers (+600)
The Orlando Guardians sit in last place, and rightfully so. They had the worst quarterback room in the league when these odds came out and the least complete roster. However, they just signed former NFL quarterback Paxton Lynch, making this Orlando team seem a bit more competitive.
Houston has also improved their roster, picking up 2 wide receivers in the last 3 days. Davion Davis was signed, a player who found a catch in the NFL in 2021. The more exciting signing is former USFL receiver, Osirus Mitchell, who had 333 yards and 3 touchdowns with the Birmingham Stallions. This team has tried making great roster changes, which seems to be helping.
DC has also improved the team, with two former NFL players making the signing list. One that excites me the most is wide receiver Chad Hansen, who showed real potential with the Houston Texans. His last chance in the NFL was in 2020, where he had an incredibly impressive 236 yards and a touchdown. He should be a major impact player for the team and should reach stardom.
Vegas is middle of the pack, making the least amount of roster moves of the teams listed so far. They let go of Bryan Scott but picked up NFL veteran Brett Hundley. Having a complete passer for Martavis Bryant will change their offensive game.
The XFL Top 4
The best odds to win the championship go to:
- San Antonio Brahmas (+550)
- Arlington Renegades (+500)
- Seattle Dragons (+450)
- St. Louis Battlehawks (+400)
The Brahmas have the most potential out of any team in the XFL, Jack Coan is the biggest what-if, and will determine the team’s success. However, Kalen Ballage and TJ Vasher should keep the offense incredibly well-rounded.
Arlington was high on most people’s preseason lists, with a range anywhere from 2nd place to 6th. However, one signing may change the course of this team completely. Defensive Back Cre’Von Leblanc was signed just two days ago, a player many wishes were on their own NFL teams. He has great ball skills, and he may fill the missing piece the Renegades’ defense needs.
The Dragons are the universal No. 2 in the league, with star talent in every corner. We always have to talk about Ben DiNucci, former NFL backup at quarterback. With his expertise and talent, this team has incredible potential. Losing Curtis Weaver is not ideal, but they should make up for it with recent signings.
Lastly, the Battlehawks are everyone’s favorite. AJ McCarron at quarterback, their incredibly deep tight end room, and the most well-rounded squad in the league. Their most recent signing was Tim Harris, who played in 3 NFL games. They are the favorite to win at +400, and some major change would be needed to take the top spot.
