The Dark Horse of the AFC: The Tennessee Titans

The Dark Horse of the AFC The Tennessee Titans

At 4-2, the Tennessee Titans might not look like much. They don’t have the passing offense of the Bills and Chiefs. They don’t have an elusive speedster QB like the Ravens, and they don’t have the defense of the Cardinals. However, what they do have is a player like none other in the entire league, Derrick Henry.

He isn’t the sole reason for the team’s success though, the supporting cast is quite strong. Ryan Tannehill is an unsuspecting QB who can put drives together. The offensive line creates gaps quite easily. The defense has surprising resilience in close games, due to the coaching of Mike Vrabel.

Even without the best receivers, the Titans can win games

It says something when a team is able to overcome adversity and win games. The Titans don’t have the best receivers in the NFL but make do with what they have. They went out and got Julio Jones, who found himself back on the injury list. Still, with A.J. Brown, the Titans have won games.

Most teams who don’t have a strong receiver base end up losing games. The passing game becomes stagnant and teams are able to defend them easier. Tennessee doesn’t have this problem because they’ve found a solution for it. Can’t pass the ball? Fine, give it to the player who could run through a brick wall.

No discussion required, Derrick Henry is the best in the NFL

At this point, if anyone needs convincing of who the best in the NFL is, they haven’t paid attention. Any team, that has remotely had a chance at stopping Derrick Henry has been unable to do so. Buffalo, a team that allows just 89.7 rushing yards per game, surrendered 143 yards and 3 touchdowns to Henry.

It’s only Week 7 of the NFL and Derrick Henry leads the NFL in rushing by over 250 yards. Currently, Henry has 783 yards on the season, the next closest is Nick Chubb with 523. How there is still a conversation on who’s the best running back in the NFL is beyond me. Henry leads the league in rushing touchdowns (10) and average yards per game (130.5).

The road is just beginning for the Tennessee Titans

The schedule gets tougher for the Titans from their win over the Bills. Still, the Titans were prepared last season for these tests as well. Remember, the Titans nearly took out the Chiefs in the AFC Championship last year. Although they aren’t a flashy team, they’re one of the league’s best.

Even with the win over the Bills, they come in as underdogs against the Chiefs. The Chiefs are 3-3, with wins over Washington, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. Yet the Titans come in as 5.5-point underdogs? The Titans are fine with being underdogs though, it’ll only be more of a shock when they come out on top.
