TCU Overcoming the Doubts This Season

TCU

Sonny Dykes, after coming over from SMU this past season, has taken the Frogs on an 11-0 run throughout the Big 12. Dykes came to TCU after giving SMU three winning seasons in a row. TCU has not had an easy road in the Big 12, having over three comeback wins helping their ranking go up each week. Going against Iowa State as the 4th ranked team in the Nation, should be an easy win at home for the Frogs. Duggen has been giving the Frogs hope each week by leading them to all 11 wins this season. This season would not have worked out if it were not for the defense TCU has brought in.

Why Max Duggen is Overlooked

Max Duggen is a 4th year senior, averaging about 260 throwing yards per game. Duggen was thinking about the transfer portal after not getting the starting spot in the spring and preseason games. Chandler Morris, who is a redshirt freshman, started the first game against Colorado before getting hurt. Dykes handed the job over to Duggen, which he was not disappointed with. Duggen has thrown for 26 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions in their 11 games.

Connecting with Quentin Johnston

Max has multiple 300+ throwing games in which he connected with Quentin Johnston for 49 receptions and 5 receiving touchdowns. Quentin Johnston is a huge part of the Frogs offense in this 2022 season. Johnston has played in all 11 games this year averaging around 15.6 yards per reception. Quentin is a junior at TCU and has had a big impact on the offensive side of the ball this season.

The Electric Defense of TCU

TCU has overcome a lot in the past year and one of those has been the pitiful defense they have shown in the recent years. Allowing 462 yards per game and 35 points per game which lead to a 5-7 record in the 2021 season. From 118th scoring defense to 57th has been huge for Frogs in the 2022 season. They have also allowed 100 less yards this season leading them to being the 5th ranked run defense in the Big 12. Duggen is thankful for his defense giving him the opportunities to have the ball in his hands as much as possible.

TCU Making the National Championship

After the win they should have against Iowa State next week the Frogs should be 12-0 heading into their TBD game on December 3rd. After this game they should have enough credibility to be able to sneak into the 4th spot for a chance to play in the National Championship. This would be huge for TCU after not playing in the National Championship since 1938. This 2022 season for the Frogs has been something special. With Duggen at his all-time best, I do not see TCU laying down early in the playoffs.
