This season has been full of surprises. From the Titans already looking to be out of the playoff picture to the Cardinals being the last undefeated team, there have been a lot of teams that have either over or underperformed expectations this season. That then must beg the question of which teams look to be Super Bowl favorites?
The final undefeated team has looked nearly flawless through 4 weeks. The Rams were certainly their biggest test this season and they stepped up big time winning 37-20. Kyler Murray is making a serious case for MVP and the offense/defensive rankings so far are both top 10. If this team can handily beat the Rams then they can surely beat any team in the league.
The Bills are only on this list so I can personally debunk their sudden rise to the top of everyone’s power rankings. Why is this team so popular all of a sudden? Because they dropped 40 on a Texans team with the oldest roster in the NFL using their third-string QB? They have played 4 terrible teams this season with a combined record of 5-11. They lost to the 1-3 Steelers in their first game. Of course, they look like a great team, they have played nobody and should be 4-0. This team will crumble when faced with a good opponent.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are looking more and more like a legitimate Super Bowl contender every week. Before the season started I jokingly stated that the mighty Justin Herbert finally had the weapons to make it to the Super Bowl and win MVP this year and those takes actually look pretty good so far. They have a notable win against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium already and we’re only 3 points off of beating the Cowboys. This team looks poised and in control in high-pressure situations and they rank top 10 in the league in offense and defense each respectively.
The Dallas Cowboys look like they could go all the way this year. I know we have all heard that from every Cowboys fan for the past 10 years now but this year it’s not impossible. Dak has come back from his injury with a vengeance and looks poised to have a case for MVP and the defense has really polished things up from being 28th in the league last year to 16th this year. Not the best but significantly better against some tough opponents already.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have been an absolute powerhouse and it sure looks like they just needed that elite QB to become a truly elite squad. Last year they relied heavily on defensive dominance to succeed but this year, even though their defense has statistically fallen off quite dramatically from last year, they’ve become arguably the best team in the league with an offense that’s been phenomenal in nearly every category. If they can return to their defensive dominance from just a season ago they should be undoubted locks to run through any team in the league.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers started off on the wrong foot this year in an absolute dumpster fire loss to the Saints but have since turned it around. As of right now, they rank top 3 in the league on offense and 18th on defense but they have also been riddled with injuries this year to key defensive players. Once the starters return I expect the defense to take a leap into the top 12 or top 10 areas in the league. With Rodgers cooking again and the offense rolling, that could spell Super Bowl finally for this team.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay made history by winning a Super Bowl and then bringing back every starter. As expected they have been a team that has been near perfect with their only loss being to the other near-perfect team in the Rams. With an offense that is number one in the league and a defense that has fallen off but still gets the job done. We saw the Bucs start last year with a bad defense but they progressed until the playoffs when they really came together and were the number one defense we remember them as. Most of the regular season they were average at best so I am not worried about them yet. Once the playoffs roll around they should be right back in the mix of best offense and the best defense in the league with their only real competition likely to be the Rams.
