After last week’s games, the 49ers appear to have been snakebitten in their pursuit of championship glory. After losing original starter Trey Lance, NFL backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a broken foot. Garoppolo is out for the rest of the season, and the 49ers are onto their third-string back-up, Brock Purdy.

The Bengals showed some of that championship mettle from last season by beating the Kansas City Chiefs in Cincinnati. The Bengals seem to be replicating their end-of-season rounding into form just in time for the playoffs.

The Eagles continued their dominant regular season with a 35-10 win in Philadelphia over the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys also gave a dominant performance at home against the Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles and Cowboys are on a course for a major NFL NFC East clash on Christmas Eve in Dallas.

Let’s take a look ahead to the Week 14 schedule and preview some of this week’s exciting upcoming match-ups.

Dolphins-Chargers: Sunday Night Flex Match-Up

In what looks like the best match-up on paper this week, the Miami Dolphins continue their West Coast road trip and travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers. The game has a total of 51.5, and the Dolphins are favored by 2.5 points on the road.

This is a make or break game for the Chargers. They’re hovering around the final wild card spot and are within swinging distance of getting into the playoffs, but need some things to go their way. The Chargers have struggled with injuries all season. Beating Miami at home will go a long way towards making the playoffs, especially if the Jets and Patriots lose this week.

Eagles-Giants: Rough and Tumble NFC East

The Eagles have been the class of the NFC all season, but they’re taking a tour of their own division the last month. They play the Giants twice before the end of the year, and the aforementioned Christmas Eve showdown versus the Dallas Cowboys.

This match-up has the Eagles as a 6.5 point favorite, and the game has a total of 44.5. The Giants have been a tough match-up all season with their quirky mix of defense and timely offense. While the Eagles have been flying high all season, I suspect that the Giants will muck this game up and make it an ugly one. Be careful, Iggles!

Jets-Bills: Playoff Implications at Both Ends of the AFC

Another NFL AFC game with wild card implications is this week’s NFL match-up between the Jets and Bills. The Jets currently sit in the last NFL AFC Wild Card spot. Their divisional match-up against Buffalo will determine whether they fall into a pack of teams competing for the last spot (Chargers, Patriots, potentially the Raiders).

For the Bills, while they are still sitting in the #1 playoff spot, there are questions floating around Josh Allen’s true NFL health status, and if he’ll be able to be healthy to make it all the way to the Super Bowl in February. A test against the stout Jets defense should be just the way to find out.
