News as Week 7 is Complete

This year has been out of the ordinary as the Clemson Tigers are not in the top 5 or even ranked for that matter as week 7  is in the books. The Cincinnati Bearcats and Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma Sooners are slated in the second and third spot ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide. In other news, Ed Orgeron will not return to coach the LSU Tigers for the upcoming season.

Cincinnati Bearcats are Proving Their Doubters Wrong and Other News

News as Week 7 is Complete

The Georgia Bulldogs remained the unanimous number one position with 63 first-place votes in the AP-top 25 rankings. Quarterback Stetson threw for three touchdowns and was able to accumulate 250 passing yards in the process. On the other hand, the Cincinnati Bearcats are proving why they deserve recognition as a strong program.

The Bearcats have long awaited to be in the position as they achieved ranking #6 at their peak since the 2019 season. There were questions about strength in the schedule. However, history repeats itself as the team made a big statement with a win over Notre Dame in week five 24-13.

Since defeating Norte Dame who was ranked number 9 at the time, Cincinnati has not stopped piling points against the opposing teams. In the last two weeks against Temple and UCF, the team has put up 108 points while surrendering just 24 points. RB Jerome Ford rushed for a career-best 189 yards and secured 4 touchdowns in the process against UCF.

In other news, the Iowa Hawkeyes dropped to the number 11 spot after a surprising loss on the road against the Purdue Boilermakers. The offense seemed to be out of sync as they only had 271 yards in total. On the opposing side, Aidan O’Connell threw for 375 yards as he racked up three touchdowns in the game.

WR David Bell had a career night as he had a career-best 240 receiving yards. Because of the stunning victory, this was their biggest win against a ranked opponent since 1974. Purdue was officially awarded the number 25 rank which snapped the longest current AP poll drought for a Power 5 school as they were last ranked in 2007.

The Hawkeyes played without DB Riley Moss who will be out for a couple of weeks who suffered an injury against Penn State. Iowa certainly needs to get better offensively if they want to win the West Division in the Big Ten as the team has a favorable schedule moving forward.

In other news, the University of Miami Hurricanes is currently 2-4 which is the school’s worst start in two decades.

Ed Orgeron not Returning for 2022

Ed Orgeron spent six seasons as the coach for the LSU football team. The announcement came just less than 24 hours after a 49-42 upset victory over Florida. However, the AD believed it was time for a change as the team is currently 4-3 this season.

This season didn’t start as planned as the team was upset by UCLA in the season’s opener. They also lost to other ranked teams which included Auburn and Kentucky in back-to-back weeks. After securing a perfect record in 2019 and winning the national championship led by Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, Orgeron saw Burrow and 13 other players leave for the NFL Draft.

Ever since that year, LSU has failed to be a powerhouse in the SEC. Orgeron stated that he had a great run as they search for a new championship tier coach begins for the program. LSU will pay Orgeron the remaining $16.95 million left on his contract, and Orgeron stated that he is not interested in a coaching job elsewhere in the upcoming 2022 season.

Every coaching change has a drawback as both parties are parting ways soon. LSU may lose some recruits in the 2022 Class following Orgeron’s firing. This includes four-star wide receiver Aaron Anderson who recently decommitted.
