Michigan With A Giant Win In Columbus

Coming into this game Michigan and Ohio State were both undefeated. Going into halftime, the Buckeyes were leading Michigan 20-17, but the Wolverines turned it around after half. Outscoring the Buckeyes 28-3 in a 45-23 win on the road.

Where Was Ohio State’s Defense

The defense for the Buckeyes could not stop the dominant McCarthy offense.

McCarthy needed to be able to throw around the Buckeyes defense, and he certainly did that with 263 passing yards with three passing touchdowns. The Buckeyes coming into this game were -8.5 favorites which after the first half looked promising going into the second half. Michigan was a different breed in the second half which boosted them to beating the Buckeyes by 22 points.

The Thunder of J.J. McCarthy

Going into the game on Saturday, McCarthy was looked down upon for not having the best passing games recently. McCarthy showed why Michigan could make a run in the playoffs during his showcase Saturday. Being able to throw around the Buckeyes defense is impressive because these last 11 games the Buckeyes have been incredible defending for Stroud and the offense.

McCarthy connected 3 different times, one of his completions being a 75-yard touchdown pass to Cornelius Johnson, which showed life in the Wolverines offense. If McCarthy is able to keep up the passing ability he had on Saturday. There could be something special in the next few games for the Michigan fans to look forward to.

The Star Donovan Edwards

Donovan Edwards shared the star position with McCarthy during the game on Saturday. Edwards carried the ball 22 times for 216 rushing yards and tacked on two rushing touchdowns. Again, being able to catch the Buckeyes defense off with the run and pass game is hard to do.

The Wolverines did just that with Edwards running through the different holes the offense provided, and McCarthy throwing across the field. Those two won the game for the Wolverines, and Edwards opened the weak points in the Buckeyes defense. The Wolverines in the 2nd half were able to capitalize on their weaknesses and blow right threw them.

Cannot Forget About Cornelius Johnson

Johnson and McCarthy were able to connect on four great plays that made a huge impact on the game. Johnson had four receptions for 160 receiving yards then averaged out to 40 yards per catch. On Top of those yards, Johnson put up two touchdowns for the Wolverines.

Johnson came up clutch in the game against the Buckeyes after only coming into the game with 25 receptions and four touchdowns. Not being targeted a lot this year had the Buckeyes questioning why he was not a big name on the scouting report. After this game, I believe the Wolverines will hand over more targets for Johnson in the games to come.
