The AFC South division has seen many players come and go such as JJ Watt and Andrew Luck. Nowadays fans are accustomed to seeing players like Derrick Henry and Johnathan Taylor.
The Afc South might be the weakest division in the AFC right now. The AFC has seen many good players depart, such as Deshaun Watson and AJ Brown to name a few in the past year. As of 2022 only one team in the AFC South division has won at least one Super Bowl and that team is the Indianapolis Colts.
In this article we will look at the final division in this draft bust series and see what happened to these four busts.
Houston Texans: David Carr
The Houston Texans selected quarterback David Carr with the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Fresno State. The Houston Texans were a brand new franchise in 2002, becoming the 32nd team in the National Football league. The Texans were looking to draft a cornerstone player with their first ever draft pick and they chose standout Fresno State quarterback David Carr.
Unfortunately, Carr did not pan out the way the Texans had hoped. During his time in Houston Carr was sacked 249 times, leading the league in being sacked three out of his five seasons in Houston. Carr also threw a whopping 65 interceptions to 59 touchdowns.
After leaving Houston Carr spent the rest of his career as a backup and rarely saw the field ever again.
Indianapolis Colts: Art Schlichter
The Indianapolis Colts selected quarterback Art Schlichter with the fourth overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Schlichter’s gambling issues would end up ruining his career. Before that Schlichter proved he could not lead a team either.
His rookie year in training camp he lost the starting job to fourth round pick Mike Pagel. A first found top five pick losing the starting job to a fourth round pick from that same draft.
Schlichters rookie year saw him start just three games and throw for under 200 yards. Schlichter’s gambling would get him suspended for the entire 1983 season but he came back in 1984, however he didn’t do that much that season either. Eventually Schlichter’s gambling got him a lifetime ban from the NFL.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Justin Blackmon
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected wide receiver Justin Balckmon with the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State. The Jaguars drafted Blackmon hoping to add a weapon to quarterback Blaine Gabbert’s arsenal. Blackmon did have a promising rookie season with over 800 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
After Blackmon’s rookie season his career would go downhill. Blackmon was suspended for four games in the 2013 season for violating the NFL’s substance policy. Shortly after that suspension was lifted he was suspended again. After the 2014 season where he did not play a single snap, the Jaguars released Blackmon.
Tennessee Titans: Isaiah Wilson
The Tennessee Titans selected offensive Lineman Isaiah Wilson with the 29th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Georgia. The most recent draft bust on the list from only two years ago. The Titans drafted Wilson hoping to pair him with star tackle Taylor Lewan but it did not work out that way.
In his career in the NFL Wilson would only play in one game for three plays. Wilson spent most of his rookie season on the Covid-19 list or being suspended for violating the team’s rules. The Titans were fed up after Wilson was arrested for DUI and dealt him to Miami where he would never play a snap and announce his retirement from football.
